Our Story
Budongo Women Bee Enterprises (BUWOBE) is a women-led social enterprise based in Masindi District, Uganda, dedicated to empowering rural women and youth through sustainable beekeeping, value addition and environmental conservation.
BUWOBE was founded to address poverty, unemployment and environmental degradation in communities surrounding the Budongo Forest and Murchison Falls National Park. We support women many with limited access to land to build profitable beekeeping enterprises using modern hives and techniques while promoting the protection of forests and biodiversity.
We believe economic empowerment and environmental stewardship go hand in hand. Investing in women creates lasting benefits for families and communities and thriving forests create the conditions for thriving bees, farms and livelihoods.
What We Do
BUWOBE mobilizes and trains farmers in modern beekeeping methods, supplies quality equipment and processes raw honey into pure, organic medicinal-grade products that meet market standards. We add value to honey through beeswax products providing beekeepers with a ready, reliable market for their harvest

Why Beekeeping, Why here
Operating in communities surrounding Budongo Forest and Murchison Falls National Park, we recognize the critical role bees play in pollination, biodiversity conservation and sustainable agriculture. We work closely with local communities and conservation authorities to promote climate-smart beekeeping, tree planting and sustainable land management that protects bee habitats and strengthens ecosystem resilience. Bee farming naturally encourages the planting and conservation of fruit and indigenous trees. In areas neighboring the national Park, communities and conservation authorities have learned to co-exist with the wildlife authority and national forest authority even permitting beehives within protected territory. As pollinators, bees also directly boost crop production for surrounding farms.
Our Impact
Improving the economic status of rural women. Harvests from BUWOBE supported hives give women a reliable income, helping them meet household needs, pay school fees and access healthcare. Beyond individual households, BUWOBE is committed to creating lasting social and environmental impact: expanding economic opportunity for marginalized women and youth , promoting financial inclusion and contributing to rural development across Masindi District.
